Ecosystems
Science - updated for 2023 syllabus
Help the Field of Mars Environmental Education Centre in their conservation efforts. In this excursion, students assume the role of ecologists investigating the ecosystems in the Field of Mars Reserve - an important urban wildlife refuge. They will use specialised fieldwork instruments to measure critical abiotic and biotic factors that impact habitat availability and quality, and conduct an animal survey to construct a food web of the ecosystem here. Students will apply their findings to explain how the ecosystem influences a vulnerable species and draw conclusions on the suitability of the site for their conservation in Sydney.
This program aligns with the implementation of the new 7-10 Science (2023) syllabus for the Stage 4 topic Living Systems - Ecosystems and can be used to support an assessment task or depth study.
