Environmental change and management excursion
Geography
This program can cater up to 10 classes, with advanced notice.
The Lane Cove River estuary and surrounds provide opportunities to study some of Sydney's best protected natural reserves. The bushland remnants and the river foreshore informs geographers to what may have been here in the past while simultaneously recognising the human induced impacts that result from its position in an urban catchment.
This site study has a focus on fieldwork inquiry and tools. Students will use equipment to; collect primary data on estuarine processes, identify, measure and record macro and micro plastics, engage in Streamwatch water quality testing and conduct vegetation transects to identify introduced plant species (weeds) located within the riparian zone.
Location
To accommodate large groups we use multiple sites along the Lane Cove River.
- Magdala Park
- Blackman Park
- Chatswood Rotary Athletics Field (Mowbray Park)
