The ground layer of the eucalypt forest provides really important plant and leaf litter for small animals and invertebrates.

The brush turkey, for example, uses the leaf litter to create enormous nests like you can see behind me.

These nests are so large because it keeps the eggs nice and warm inside and it also has lots of food for the little baby once they've hatched.
