Program commencing 2025
Help the Field of Mars Environmental Education Centre solve an ecological mystery. In this excursion, students assume the role of ecologists investigating a range of environments in the Field of Mars Reserve - an important urban wildlife refuge. They will use specialised fieldwork instruments to measure critical abiotic and biotic factors that impact habitat availability and quality, and conduct an animal survey to construct a food web of the ecosystem here. Students will apply their findings to explain changes in the distribution and abundance of a threatened species.
This program aligns with the implementation of the new 7-10 Science (2023) syllabus for the Stage 4 topic Living Systems - Ecosystems and can be used to support an assessment task or depth study.
