Preparing for fieldwork video transcript

Video transcript

Hi everyone. So hopefully this is the last video that you need to watch before your fieldwork. This video is about preparing yourself for the day of the fieldwork. Let's start with what to wear.

A hat is obviously a good idea when you're outside, especially in the Aussie bush. I like wearing a long-sleeve shirt, I roll the sleeves up on hot days, down on the sunny or the cold days. Same with flipping up the collar, keep the sun off.

Whether you wear shorts or long pants is up to you guys as long as you can move freely in them and if it looks like there might be a little bit of rain in the forecast wear something that dries out quickly.

Okay I've also got a pair of bush walking boots on. Now if you own these great, wear them. If you don't, you don't have to run out and buy a pair. Any pair of sneakers that have got a good gripping sole will do the trick. I wouldn't wear things made for basketball or skateboarding or tennis or something like that because they've got the flat soles which will be slippery on this sort of leaf litter.

Clipboard. Bring your own clipboard if you've got it but we'll have some for loan on the day. I've got my pencil ready right here because the thing about fieldwork is you're constantly making notes and recording data in all sorts of situations so you want to keep it handy.

Of course the last thing is the backpack. Comfy little bush walking backpack or whatever backpack you've got. Let's have a look now at what you should be carrying in it.

So there you go guys. We look forward to seeing you on the day.

End of transcript.
