Stage 1 excursions | Years 1–2 | Field of Mars EEC

Stage 1 (S1) excursions at Field of Mars Environmental Education Centre provide hands-on learning for Year 1 and 2 students in bushland and local reserves. Programs support English, HSIE Geography and History, PDHPE and Science and Technology through rich outdoor contexts that build vocabulary, observation, fieldwork talk, teamwork and respectful connections to place.

English excursion

Ranger for a day excursion

Stage 1 | English

Students become rangers for a day, exploring bushland habitats and learning vocabulary through games, role-play and hands-on tasks. They practise describing what they see, explaining evidence of animals and using cause-and-effect sentences to communicate how people protect environments.

Stage 1 | HSIE Geography

Students investigate natural and built features of Buffalo Creek or Field of Mars Reserve, using maps, fieldwork and observations to describe places, their uses and how we can care for them.

Students explore local water environments such as creeks and wetlands, observing living things, simple water cycles and how people can help keep waterways healthy and clean.

This excursion introduces Stage 1 students to Aboriginal connections to Country, exploring significant places, traditional uses of plants and the importance of caring for the land and waterways.
