Stage 1 excursions | Years 1-2

Stage 1 excursions at Field of Mars Environmental Education Centre provide hands-on environmental learning for Year 1 and 2 students in Field of Mars Reserve and surrounds, East Ryde. These curriculum-aligned programs integrate HSIE geography and history, PDHPE and science to help students explore features of places, water environments, life cycles and Aboriginal connections to Country.

Features of places excursion

HSIE geography

Students investigate natural and built features of Buffalo Creek or Field of Mars Reserve, using maps, fieldwork and observations to describe places, their uses and how we can care for them.

Ranger for a day excursion

HSIE geography

In this geography-based excursion, students become rangers for a day, exploring bushland habitats, spotting signs of animals and considering how park rangers protect environments in Sydney.

Students explore local water environments such as creeks and wetlands, observing living things, simple water cycles and how people can help keep waterways healthy and clean.
