Activities
Composition
Students will be introduced to the art of photographic composition without initially using a camera. Using printed photographs, gallery-style critique and framing tools, students will deconstruct how professional photographers use the rule of thirds, framing, leading lines and focus to control what viewers notice in an image.
Nature photography
Equipped with Field of Mars EEC iPads, students will explore the reserve like professional nature photographers, searching for unique perspectives, dramatic lighting, tiny details and striking natural compositions.
Students will experiment with macro photography, perspective, texture, symmetry and selective framing while photographing plants, animals, patterns and landscapes across the reserve.
Editor
Returning to the studio classroom, students will edit and refine their strongest photographs using professional-style editing techniques. They will learn how photographers adjust colour, contrast, cropping and focus to improve visual impact and guide audience attention.
Students will create a photography book using their best images. The book will be printed and a PDF version will be returned to school via Google drive.
Gallery-quality takeaway
Each student will select one of their photographs to be printed on photo paper, mounted in a frame and returned to school as a finished exhibition-style artwork.
Slide show
Selected student photographs will be showcased in a gallery-style slideshow at the conclusion of the day. Parents are welcome to attend and celebrate student creativity and achievement.
This program is only available to NSW Department of Education schools.
