Stage 2 excursions | Years 3–4 | Field of Mars EEC

Our Stage 2 (S2) excursions are designed for Years 3 and 4 students and combine creative, inquiry-based and active learning in bushland environments at Field of Mars Reserve, East Ryde. Programs support Creative Arts, English, HSIE Geography, PDHPE, HPGE and Science and Technology and help students investigate places, ecosystems, wellbeing, leadership and sustainability.

An arts-based excursion where students use drawing, painting and nature-based materials to explore wellbeing, emotions and connection to place in the bushland of Field of Mars Reserve.

Stage 2 | Creative Arts

Students use iPads or digital devices outdoors to capture images, create digital artworks and tell visual stories inspired by the eucalypt environments of Field of Mars Reserve.

Documentary in a day excursion

Stage 2 | English

A full-day program where students plan, script, film and review a short nature documentary in the reserve, developing speaking, listening and digital storytelling skills linked to Stage 2 English outcomes.

Students go on a bushwalk collecting words, images and sensory details, then create poetry and short texts inspired by the natural environments of Field of Mars Reserve.

Students investigate a local eucalypt forest in Field of Mars Reserve, exploring features, plants, animals, weather and human impacts, and considering ways to care for environments sustainably.

An excursion focusing on local Aboriginal connections to Country, where students learn about the significance of places, stories, land use and caring for Country in their local Sydney area.

Students investigate a national park, exploring features, plants, animals, weather and management. They will explore the conservation strategies of the park and the ways Aboriginal peoples sustainably used its resources.
