Challenge + | Stage 2 | PDHPE excursion | Field of Mars EEC

Program overview

Challenge + is a Stage 2 PDHPE excursion designed to build teamwork, leadership and problem-solving through active outdoor challenges in Field of Mars Reserve. Students navigate an orienteering photo rally using maps and an iPad camera, complete trust-building activities such as a blindfolded trust walk, and collaborate in high-energy team challenges that strengthen communication and class connections.

Activities

Teamwork briefing and challenge mindset

Students set goals for effective group work and identify the behaviours that help teams succeed in outdoor challenges. Throughout the day, students practise positive communication, encouragement and role sharing to support inclusion.

Orienteering photo rally

In small groups, students use a map to navigate to a series of checkpoints and solve location-based challenges. Students record evidence using an iPad camera before returning to check answers as a team.

Trust walk

Students complete a blindfolded bushwalk challenge that relies on listening, calm communication and teamwork. Using touch and sound cues, students support one another to move safely along the route and reflect on trust-building behaviours.

Possums vs owls

Groups will be split into two teams. The possum team will use large sticks to build a fort wall (possum drey) designed to protect them from a water squirter attack (the owls). The owl team will fill buckets and return to launch their attack. Groups then swap roles.

This program is also available for Stage 3.

"The FoM teachers were wonderful, the day was very well organised and the activities were inclusive for all."
