Ranger for a day | Primary HSIE student learning resource

Learning Intention
We are learning to identify where animals live in their natural environment and explore ways to improve their habitats.

This Ranger for a Day resource helps Stage 1 students learn about animal habitats and environments. Through five hands-on activities supported by videos and downloadable resources, students will explore different habitats, check habitat health, and design improvements to support local wildlife.

These activities can be used to support a Ranger for a day excursion with the Field of Mars EEC.

Lesson 1 - Animal habitats

Students learn what a habitat is, watch videos of different environments, explore a garden or schoolyard for small animals, and practise identifying natural homes for wildlife.

Lesson 2 - Improving habitats

Students evaluate a garden or local green space using a habitat score card and design improvements to make a healthier habitat for native animals.
