Poetic adventures | Stage 2 English incursion

Program overview

Students will collaborate on a digital communication product, developing vocabulary to create a five-senses poem. They will learn photography and digital storytelling to bring their poem to life.

Learning intentions

Stage 2 student using an iPad to take macro photos of natural objects such as leaves, bark or flowers to illustrate their Poetic adventures poem
Students walking to different locations in the school grounds and writing poem sentences from their minifigure’s perspective in a notebook

Activities

Macro adventure

Students will walk to various locations around your school. At each location, they’ll work in pairs to write a sentence from their minifigure’s perspective. They’ll learn about descriptive tier 2 and 3 words for natural areas and natural objects.

Students will learn about macro photography and use visual literacy to illustrate their poem.

iMovie studio

Students will review and edit field images using iMovie or a similar app. They’ll create a sequence of images to support their poem, narrate it, add titles, and select a soundtrack.

Post-production

If needed, the session can be extended to give students more time to finish their digital project.

Completed products will be sent back to school via Google Drive.

This program is also available as an  excursion  to the Field of Mars Reserve. This program is also available for Stage 3.

Classes

Maximum 3 classes per day.

School preparation

This is a full day program.

Schools to provide one extra large learning space, with a screen or projector, for all participating classes for the duration of the day. The space needs to accommodate all classes.

Place students into groups of two.

Welfare

For medical or special needs notify staff prior to program.

Extreme or wet weather

Program may be modified, postponed or cancelled due to predicted extreme temperatures, bush fire danger, heavy rainfall, high winds or dust storms.

Confirm student numbers and classes 7 days in advance.

Cancellation fee

Less than 30 working school days – $600

Less than 7 working school days notice – full cost

Weather or fire danger cancellation – $0
