Use this page to prepare for a safe visit to Field of Mars Environmental Education Centre.

All visiting teachers, contractors, volunteers and visitors must follow Field of Mars EEC site requirements, emergency procedures and staff directions while on site.

Emergency procedures

Evacuation procedures

  • Cease activities immediately.
  • Leave belongings behind.
  • Move to the closest safe area or emergency assembly point as directed by Field of Mars EEC staff.
  • Visiting teachers mark student rolls.
  • Field of Mars EEC staff check staff and visitor registration records.
  • Report any discrepancies to the principal or delegate.
  • Field of Mars EEC staff notify the appropriate authority.
  • Await instructions from emergency services or Field of Mars EEC staff.

Lockdown procedures

  • The principal or delegate will order a lockdown when a major threat is imminent.
  • Visiting teachers will be informed of the threat and the required procedures.
  • Move students to classrooms or the nearest safe area.
  • Close blinds and lock doors where possible.
  • Visiting teachers mark student rolls.
  • Field of Mars EEC staff check staff and visitor registration records.
  • Report any discrepancies to the principal or delegate.
  • Wait for further instructions from police, emergency services or Field of Mars EEC staff.

Bushfire procedures

  • If bushfire risk affects the visit, Field of Mars EEC staff will contact schools and provide advice.
  • If required, activities will cease and students will move to the closest safe area or emergency assembly point.
