The needs of plants video script transcript

Hello, I'm Tess and I'm being a scientist today. Will you join me?

Did you know that plants are alive! Even though they don't move around, they still need food, air, a good place to live and water to survive. We can tell if a plant is getting everything it needs and if it's healthy by having a look at some of its features and where we find it.

I've come inside now to have a look at some indoor plants. Let's use a checklist and look at the features of the plants to see if they're getting everything they need. This checklist tells me that plants need sunlight to create food, air and water to survive. This plant is near a window so I know that it's getting enough sunlight to create food and enough airflow. The stems are drooping down though and I can see some brown leaves. The soil also feels quite dry so I know that it's not getting enough water.

Oops it looks like this plant is fake. I can tell that it's not living because its stems feel like plastic and there's no soil in the pot.

It's your turn to be the scientist now have a go at investigating your plants to see if they're getting everything they need.
