Activity 1 - iMovie app and documentary checklist
There are many different apps you can use to edit your nature documentary. We are going to use iMovie on iPad however most editing apps work in similar ways.
Tasks
- Download and view the nature documentary checklist to identify the important elements your documentary needs to include.
- Follow the iMovie editing sequence to construct your nature documentary.
Activity 2 - Add a title video
Tasks
- Select a video to use as your title.
- Tap the clip in the timeline so a yellow editing box appears. Drag the edges of the clip to change its duration.
- Select 'title' in the action bar and add a title to your clip.
Activity 3 - Add voiceover and clips
Tasks
- Record the voiceover for your first scene.
- Listen to your voiceover.
- Add video clips to match your voiceover. Each clip should have a duration between 3 to 10 seconds.
Activity 3 - Remove background sounds
Tasks
- Tap the clip to activate editing.
- Reduce the volume to 0 (zero).
- Repeat for every video clip.
Activity 4 - Add photos
Tasks
- View your photos in the media library. Select to add to iMovie timeline.
- Select photo in timeline. Reduce duration of photos to 2 seconds.
- Add caption title to photos.
Activity 5 - Visual content
Tasks
- Record your next voiceover.
- Add video clips, photos and captions.
- Repeat until all visual content has been added.
Activity 6 - Add background music
Tasks
- Access music in the audio library and add to your documentary.
- Select background music so the yellow editing box appears.
- Reduce the volume of the background music.
Activity 7 - Feedback
Play your nature documentary to other students in your class.
Tasks
- Ask other students to provide feedback to your group using the nature documentary checklist.
- Based on feedback continue editing your nature documentary.
